Method & assumptions
Total the hours on a weekly time card from start and end times minus unpaid breaks, including overnight shifts, overtime and gross pay.
hours = Σ(end − start − break); overtime = max(0, hours − threshold)Worked example
One shift per line: day, start-end, break minutes: Mon 9:00-17:30 30 Tue 8:45-17:00 30 Wed 9:00-18:15 45 Thu 9:00-17:00 30 Fri 8:30am-4:00pm 30 Hourly rate (0 to skip pay): 22.5 Overtime after … hours per week (0 = none): 40 Overtime multiplier: 1.5 → Total hours: 38.75 (38:45) → Regular hours: 38.75 → Overtime hours: 0 → Regular pay: 871.88 → Overtime pay: 0 → Total gross pay: 871.88
Limits & important notes
Times can be 24-hour (17:30) or 12-hour (5:30pm). An end time earlier than the start counts as an overnight shift. Overtime rules differ by province, state and contract.
